It's Not the Same as Multitasking Cost
Attention residue is often confused with task-switching cost, but they're distinct. Batching similar tasks together also limits the number of times you cross from one kind of unfinished cognitive work into another. And building in a real transition — even 60 to 90 seconds of doing nothing else — gives the previous task's residue time to settle before demanding fresh attention. Environment Matters More Than People Assume
